Why I'm Running

Why are you running to be a Beltrami County commissioner? This is the question I have been asked most often since deciding to run. It is a question every candidate knows they will have to answer and tries their best to prepare for. The most common answers you hear from candidates, especially at the local level, tend to be specific policy issues. "It is my goal to fix the budget." "The roads in this county are a disaster." "We need to lower people's taxes." I believe these answers, depending on the local situation, could be adequate answers. I myself have attempted to answer this question in a similar way at times. My campaign material lists mental health, public safety, and economic development as my policy focus. I believe these are very important issues for Beltrami County and need to be championed.
However, as I spend time reflecting on this question I begin to wonder if perhaps I am not missing the forest for the trees.
I am a simple man. I try and work hard every day to provide for my wife, two daughters, and come late October a newborn. I have loved my time living in Beltrami County and this community has been very good to my family and me. It is my belief that Beltrami County is a great place to live, raise a family, start a business, and pursue boundless opportunities.
The reason why I am running for Beltrami County commissioner is simple. I want to continue to work hard not just for my family, but yours as well. I want to ensure that every resident of District 2 knows that they are heard and that they matter. I want to pursue not just specific policy changes but leave a legacy of good works that will impact people's lives now and into the future.
